Unfortunately, there are people out there who take it very personally if you choose to leave them or work alone and do not operate under the same guidelines that a more established business might. While often this a case of unprofessionalism it can also be due to ongoing confusions and misunderstandings, or they may have a valid reason such as lack of payment or technical reasons, regardless it can be a pain to try and get things sorted. We would suggest that you start by writing to them with a formal request, check their terms of service and clear any outstanding invoices with them. If none of that has helped, then you have the option to start a domain dispute with Nominet or take legal action. We can help point you in the right direction. It is always best to ensure when engaging with a company that will hold business-critical assets that you check their reputation and terms of engagement/service.
